The Morongo Unified School District’s Enrollment Committee met Wednesday evening to review updated demographic data and facility conditions as part of its ongoing effort to shape recommendations for the Board of Education.
Committee Chairperson Jennifer Cusack opened the meeting by revisiting the group’s charge. Facilitator Dr. Kemp then led members through an exercise to identify key factors for the committee’s decision-making matrix, including enrollment trends, transportation, academic impact, staffing, facility conditions and more.
Ken Reynolds of SchoolWorks presented updated demographic projections for the district, prompting questions from members about the effects of short-term rentals, the mobility of military families and the capacity of portable classrooms on future enrollment patterns.
Following the demographic presentation, district architect Roger Clark reviewed the facilities condition assessment, outlining the cost of maintenance and long-term campus needs across the district. His report helped set the stage for discussions about how infrastructure challenges might factor into broader planning decisions.
Later in the session, Steven McCormick reviewed the Naylor Act and addressed follow-up questions from the previous meeting. Committee members requested additional information, including school break-even costs, a list of vacant district properties and details on facilities serving special education programs.
The committee will be visiting elementaty schools this weekend to tour facilities across the District. For more information about the committee visit the link below.
